Benefits of Stretching

Stretching increases flexibility in our body. Flexibility is fundamental to your body’s health, posture, general ability, and injury prevention.

If flexibility is so foundational to our health and wellbeing, why is it so hard to find time to stretch?  Part of the answer may be in the expectations we set for ourselves.  We squeeze in our cardio and strength training to get our calories burned, but then run short on time and skimp or completely skip stretching.  We can get away with this for a while, but this practice of skipping the stretch can cause problems down the road as our joints can become unbalanced and added strain can cause joint and muscle pain.

This is where things can get tricky. The pain felt is real, but it can come and go and is often not fixed by treating the specific location of the pain.  I know, it sounds a little strange, but stay with me.  The root cause of the pain often originates upstream in the kinetic chain and the resulting pain is felt downstream.  This means that it can be challenging to determine exactly what is causing the issue.

The good news is, we can proactively manage these aches and pains by incorporating smart stretching into our daily and weekly routines.  Flostate intentionally focuses on stretching and body balance in each class to help maintain a strong, functional, and pain-free body.

Focused stretching and foam rolling, in addition to specialty myofascial stretches can make a significant difference in our body’s ability to rebalance and restore.  Some of Flostate’s signature classes include Poster Rx, Intensive Stretch, and Foam Roll Release and Lengthen - to name a few.  These on-demand classes can be found under our “Stretching and Foam Rolling” section.  Give them a try and let us know how you feel.  Short on time?  Browse our “Daily Xtras” for our 12 Minute Office Stretch or Express Stretch for Walkers and Runners.
